Love, Bonito: For the woman you are, and the woman you want to be

LOVE, BONITO

Love, Bonito started off as BonitoChico, a blogshop hosted on the social networking site Livejournal with the brand motto of “Empowering Confidence Through Style”. As the blogshop grew in popularity, BonitoChico eventually rebranded as Love, Bonito in 2010. Love, Bonito retails women’s apparels and its e-commerce platform now serves customers worldwide.

The Company operates an online portal that offers dresses, tops, bottoms, outerwear, one-piece, shoes, bags, and other fashion accessories. The company’s platform also offers a wide range of fashionable accessories and clothing which are customized and tailored to the customer requirements.

The Challenge

Love, Bonito was looking for a high performing, stable and reliable Magento platform that is designed for growth as well as infrastructure as code for future growth in the other region and other environments. On top of the Magento migration, the company is also looking to have an additional 3 months of post-migration support.

Why Amazon Web Services

Love, Bonito was certain that cloud technologies was the way forward for their business but they needed the assistance to select the right provider. The business decided to engage Amazon Partner Network (APN) consulting partner Cloud Comrade.\

Cloud Comrade advised that Amazon Web Services was the way forward for Love, Bonito’s business needs. Working closely with our team of AWS certified solution architects, an exhaustive study was conducted on the existing Magento application and defined the processes, procedures, and methodology of migration to ensure the availability of the system during migration.

The Magento application consists of 2 environments, namely the Staging Environment and the Production Environment. Both staging and production environments were deployed on different AWS accounts to provide isolation and follow AWS best practices. The production solution was designed with 2 availability zones (AZ) to enable high-availability for the application. Although it uses 2 AZ, Love Bonito could optimize the cost by scaling Magento workload according to the traffic throughput by leveraging auto-scaling features on Magento core components such as Varnish nodes and the EKS cluster. During off-peak period, Love Bonito could easily scale-in to 1 node in 1 AZ to optimize the cost, while during on peak period, Love Bonito could scale-out to match the throughput requirements.

Love Bonito requires the Magento application to be deployed on Amazon EKS. Cloud Comrade deployed Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and enabled the auto-scaling by leveraging Kubernetes Cluster Autoscaler implementation on AWS. The solution was deployed by using infrastructure as code in the form of Terraform templates using a deployment pipeline on the Gitlab account.

The Benefits

Having a high performing, stable and reliable Magento platform gave Love, Bonito the agility and advantage over its competitors, which was not possible previously. The Magento platform increased the scalability using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) while reducing the cost. Love Bonito was able to optimize the cost by scaling Magento workload according to the traffic throughput by leveraging auto-scaling features.

Additionally, with AWS, the company was able to increase its fault tolerance tremendously with the distribution of the workload across multiple AWS availability zones (AZ). Using infrastructure as code in the form of Terraform, Love Bonito also has to worry less about infrastructure deployment and can focus more on developing the application to grow the business. With Amazon CloudFront, Love, Bonito is now able to serve worldwide customers. Love, Bonito is now at the forefront of their competition and are in the position to grow their business in the Singapore market with AWS deployed by Cloud Comrade by providing the best in class service and support in their journey.
